Like Cedar Prest’s gothic rose stained glass design (featured in Stow Memorial Church), this round embroidery and film is a colour-filled homage to the light of the Australian sun. It is also a portal across time. The sun, both awesome and mundane, has maintained a daily presence across human life. It is a defining experience of life in Australia, and I picture people past living beneath the sun (basking, baking, burning) just as we do now. I find a form of connection and transcendence in such repetitiveness; from the sun’s relentless presence, to the act of intensive stitching. These acts and observations transcend time.
