Bruised Universe

Bruised Universe is the second of a series of bedspreads upon which segments of inherited sheets have been carefully quilted into haunting stains. Like its predecessor, Leaky Sleep of the Sullied (2017), Bruised Universe uses hand-dyed family sheet swatches, with the addition of black satin, to invoke bodily marks and forms; bruises, stains, and outstretched fingers. This particular work is a type of reckoning; giving form to those spectres which seep out and haunt in the dark of night, and acknowledging what goes on under a presentable surface.
