Cross-stitches have traditionally spelt out comforting phrases such as ‘home sweet home’ or depicted pleasant flora, fauna and decorative scenes. This cross-stitch is a bruise-like topography and takes up the subject of ignorance and not seeing. Shown in an Australia frame this work is shows a blindness through my own closed eyes to the whole country, the many Countries. The crosses of cross-stitch are also a denial, a not accepting, a criticism I direct towards myself and my ancestry. Photograph Grant Hancock
