Artist statement: I like to think trees remember. That as they grow upward and outward they store in their rings memories of what has gone on around them. My tree stitchings refer to stories that arise from the Holdfast bay area; of cat planes, lost species, boat shelters, famous explorers and more. They refer to the layers of history that occurred on these sites, that now lie beneath the paved surfaces hidden from sight. Perhaps the trees know of these tales already....perhaps not. Either way, just as trees can share nutrients with other trees through their underground root systems, here above ground they temporarily become sites for sharing snippets of the past.
